1.  This solenoid shown in the enlargement came from a vehicle with a bad voltage regulator, which allowed the solenoid to see around 38 volts DC. Solenoid connectors turned black and became brittle. The solenoid ports became melted. HDT of plastic was 435 F. The customer also wondered why headlights were so bright. (U-Haul truck)

2.  The graphic shows an e ncapsulated coil from AXODE 1.3 ohm LUS. It melted down in acid to remove plastic. Start lead had a nick which shorted across lower windings of the coil.
